Eat Greek on Naxos, and generally you’ll enjoy bigger portions and more fresh, home-made food than in Athens or on islands overwhelmed by summer tourists. Most tavernas offer standard fare and similar range of dishes, but these are based on what’s available and in season, as well as the limitations of the family cook. If you need a break from Greek salad and pork in the oven, alternatives, including Greek-style Italian, Mexican can be found in and around Chora and along Plaka beach. Expect to pay half the cost of a comparable meal in France or Italy, a third of the cost of one in England. Quality of food and service do vary, as does the local wine; it is perfectly reasonable to ask to taste it before
committing yourself to a miso- kilo (1/2 a litre).

Every village has its kafenion, which tend to cater for the elderly men, and offer Greek coffee or Nescafe, fizzy drinks and water but little else. There is a growing number of chic bars and cafes offering a choice of filtered coffees, drinks, snacks, and sometimes a wide range of cakes and pastries, in Chora (aka Naxos town) and along the coast to Ag. Anna, plus a handful in the inland villages Halki/Filoti but most are closed November-March inclusive. Several bars and restaurants offer live music, usually traditional island music or Greek in mid to high season, but it is unlikely to start until at least 10pm. In Chora you will also find internet cafes, and a hardcore of cafes that remain open all year.

If you are looking for something special, unique and exceptional, Platia restaurant is the best choice and ideal to fulfill your expectations. All our dishes are prepared with the finest local products. The wine and the raki (called strofilia in Greek) have been made from Dimitri's vineyards. You will realize immediately that in this restaurant the traditional cuisine can't be characterized as a touristic place.

 

L'OSTERIA

The Osteria is a family restaurant which was opened in December 2011 by Dolly and Alfonso who, following many years in the catering industry, decided to put on their chef’s hats full time and develop their own culinary style.
